“Seekers: Return to the Wild #1: Island of Shadows” by Erin Hunter is the story of four bears - Toklo, a grizzly, Kallik, a polar bear, Yakone, also a polar bear, and Lusa, a black bear. With the loss of their friend Ujurak still fresh in their minds, they set out from Star Island in search of a place to call home. But after they happened across a lost bear cub, their adventure got more interesting. Will their adventure lead them to a place to call home, or to betrayal?
After leaving Star Island, the bears continued their great journey to a place to call home. After a long trek, the bears came to another island. As they were crossing, they came to a valley where they found a brown bear cub. The cub said that he had been driven out by his family and attacked by polar bears. Toklo decided to take the cub, Nunaluk, in. But after several mishaps caused by Nunaluk, the group began to question his loyalty. Is Nunaluk lying to them, or is he really a lost cub in need of aid? This was a relatively fast-paced adventure book. The book was constantly ending chapters on cliffhangers which kept me reading. While the book didn’t quite draw me as much as those from the previous series, it was still a very enjoyable read. There will be more books in the series and I can’t wait to see the resolution to this epic adventure.
I would recommend “Seekers: Return to the Wild #1: Island of Shadows” by Erin Hunter to people who like adventure books and bears. This was the first book in a sequel series. It would probably be good to read the preceding series so that you would know the characters a little better. This was an entertaining and fast-paced read and I can’t wait to read the next one.
