In “Nights on Catalina” by Madison Martin, Isabelle O’Connor is determined to sell Zach on her company’s offer to buy his house and land on Catalina Island. She is determined not to fail since she hasn’t failed on selling anything yet and has no reason to start now. For Isabelle this sale is personal. Not only would the sale secure her promotion within the company, it would give her enough money to buy her father a house of his dreams which he desperately deserves.
Zach Taylor is a stubborn, sexy man who won’t be agreeing to Isabelle’s terms anytime soon; in fact, he won’t ever agree to them. Zach, who is struggling with a deep personal guilt, refuses to let anyone get close to him. Even his closest friends know little to nothing about his past, accepting him as is and without question. For Isabelle, this is not enough. She refuses to take no for an answer, especially without a valid reason.
Sparks fly in this romance as these two sexy, delightful characters go head to head. They are both incredibly stubborn, headstrong and determined to get their way. Unfortunately, they both want entirely different things. As the book progresses their growing attraction takes precedence over their war and things heat up quick. Though they are both guarded, they open up enough to let each other in and eventually others as well.
The characters in this book are well developed and not particularly easy to figure out. I felt like they had enough intrigue and mystery to keep me glued to the pages without being too mysterious to make me give up on them. I really enjoyed their personalities. I could picture scenes playing out in front of me. Catalina is a town I would love to visit, full of people I’d be happy to meet. I think this is one of the elements that contribute to good writing and a solid story.
Between the characters, the story, the writing and the setting this book was a pleasure to read and has re-confirmed my faith in Madison Martin’s writing. I will be on the lookout for more romances from her. I highly suggest this quick, entertaining read. “Nights on Catalina” by Madison Martin is sure to bring enjoyment to your reading life.
