“The Redemption” by M.L. Tyndall tells the adventures of a young woman by the name of Charlisse. Charlisse finds herself stranded on a deserted island only to find her self surrounded by pirates. The Captain (insert mental image of Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom) encourages her to save herself and go with the pirates. She describes the pirates: “Most were dirty both in the appearance and in the vulgarity that proceeded from their mouths.” Perhaps it is not smart for a young lady to agree to live on a pirate ship with many rowdy men who drink too much and are not used to having women around. However, she is on a deserted island, so what options does she have?

A group of people called the Founders approached Jason and asked him to lead their plan to choke the government to death. It would mean that Jason Cutter will exist no more, and in his place, would be Preston Fisk. So, Jason makes a contingency in his will that his daughter Angel be adopted by his best friend Harry. The Founders make Jason disappear, and Angel is left an orphan.

Knitting Under the Influence

Kathleen, Lucy and Sari are three friends who knit. Kathleen is flighty, unreliable, and oversexed. Lucy is studious, lacks self-confidence and is dating Mr. Handsome. Sari is a hard-worker, dedicated to the children she cares for, and has no dating prospects. But, ask any girl with a friend, and she'll tell you that having something in common doesn't matter nearly as much as having a good friend. This fictional account of three friends who knit has it all: characters who jump to life, twists and turns that happen to all of us sooner or later, and a nice, happy ending.

Being extremely familiar with Paris, I always look forward to new books on this utterly fascinating city, partly to bring back memories and partly to pick up new ideas on where to go on my next visit there. “Historic Paris Walks,” edited by Leo Hollis, certainly worked out in both aspects, although with substantial reservations.

Death at Victoria Dock: A Phryne Fisher Mystery

Phryne Fisher is driving home by Victoria Dock when her windshield is shot out. She stops and sees two men running away. Also, she notices a body lying on the ground. She gets out to see if the person is hurt and finds that he has been shot; he dies in her arms. The police are called and they take her statement and tell her that they will investigate. That is not good enough for Phryne and she decides to investigate on her own.

An Audience for Einstein

Dr. Carl Dorning has come up with a brilliant surgical procedure. He has discovered a way to transplant the memories of one person into another. Completing his years of research, he has perfected his technique and discovered a way to completely transfer the personality without any chance of relapse. However, he does not reveal his startling revelation that perfected his technique until it is almost too late for Miguel. Miguel is the 10- year old boy that is the recipient of the memories of Professor Marlow, one of the most brilliant astrophysicists ever. Dr. Dorning takes a poor street-boy and turns him into Professor Marlow -- his memories, at least. But, at the price that Miguel's self is lost forever, this seems to be too much for both the Professor and Miguel.
